About

Public service is a calling. Many who serve their communities and nation will tell you they love what they do because of the impact they make on so many.

I believe in the Athenian Oath, leaving the world around us better than we found it. For over 2,000 years Athenians have recited the oath upon citizenship and many civic leaders hold to this oath as a reminder of why they serve.

“We will never bring disgrace on this our City by an act of dishonesty or cowardice. We will fight for the ideals and Sacred Things of the City both alone and with many. We will revere and obey the City's laws, and will do our best to incite a like reverence and respect in those above us who are prone to annul them or set them at naught. We will strive unceasingly to quicken the public's sense of civic duty. Thus, in all these ways, we will transmit this City not only, not less, but greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Why Civetta?

Why Civetta?

The citizens of Athens have taken the “Athenian Oath” for over 2,000 years upon entry into the military academy. The oath is meant to instill a sense of civic pride and virtue, with the last stanza reading, “Thus, in all these ways, we will transmit this City not only, not less, but greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.” This oath embodies many civic leaders dedication to leaving the people and places we serve better than we found them. But why Civetta?

The Greek Goddess Athena is known for her wisdom, strategy in battle, and for city protection. It is said that Athena had an owl that sat on her shoulder, because of its ability to see 360 degrees, it could protect her blind side and allow her to see the truth. Owls are known in many cultures as signs of wisdom, but owls also can see up to 100 times better than humans, and use their ears to pinpoint the exact location of sounds.

Civetta is Italian for owl, it is my goal to be an aid to our civic and non-profit leaders who are working day in and day out in their communities to “leave it better than they found it.”
